A sleepy Cambodian province that just happens to have one of the country’s busiest NH1 which links Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City running straight through it. Svay Rieng town site just 58km from Moc Bai border crossing and is fairly prosperous place as a result of the border traffic. With its 2,966sq.km, of land area and dthe western side, is entirely border with Vietnam, Svay Rieng Province has a population of 531,072 comprising 251,072 males and 279,402 females. The province consists of 7 districts, 80 communes and 690 villages. The distriuct Svay Rieng named after the province constituted the urban portion.

Svay Rieng is considered one of Cambodia’s poorest provinces because of the poor quality of its land. Most of the populations eke out a subsistence living based on farming and fishing. There is really nothing to attract visitors, but the provincial capital, Svay Rieng, is a typical Cambodian town with some charm. NH1 which passes right through the heart of the province, is being comprehensively rebuilt to smooth the journey between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City, but elsewhere the road area poor.
